Ofrenda

By Cheryl Beredo, Tracy Fenix, Caitlin McCarthy

Archivists Cheryl Beredo (Virgo) of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Tracy Fenix (Pisces) of Visual AIDS, and Caitlin McCarthy (Scorpio) of The LGBT Community Center developed this dreamscape in collaboration with the curator, Anthonywash.Rosado (Pisces). Twenty nine archives of TLGBQ and BIPoC ancestors are mounted upon an ornate, euphoric vista. The environment is an homage to deities and ancestors native to continental Africa and the Americas. Bask in the splendor, atop a mountainous isle, of offerings to kin who have soared from their Earthly bodies to shape the constellations that guide us.

Ofrenda is a collection of seven games. I worked with a curator to translate their ideas into a game and virtual world made up of seven different artists work.

Urban Futures

Mapping, the design of urban space and monuments are powerful tools in constructing perceived truths, such as to maintain the dominance of the status quo, of history already written, not to be challenged.

In this game you will explore works of art and activism that showcase intersectional sensibilities and strategies for understanding, addressing, and healing urban fault lines, drawing from the radical potential of dreaming.

Feel free to go on a stroll, engage with the multimedia dimension of these works, find those who seem familiar and engage with those that challenge you. This world aims to break free from the rules of the status quo.

This project has been executed as part of the Young Creatives fellowships by the Creative Impact Research Centre Europe.

Urban future was made with Nina Martin, who provided the concept and research for this project. I worked with Nina to create a vision of 18 different artists work.
